Please consider joining us for the Friends Historical Association Annual Meeting to be held online on Sunday, 1 November at 1:30pm (EST). This Meeting will be followed at 2pm (EST) by our annual fall event, featuring a panel of speakers who are currently engaged in research and projects that seek to locate and elevate the histories of enslaved and formerly enslaved people in Quaker archives. The purpose of this event is to promote knowledge of ongoing work into a critically understudied area of Quaker history.

Panelists include:

  • William Fernandez Hardin, Author of “‘This Unpleasant Business’: Slavery, Law and the Pleasants Family in Post-Revolutionary Virginia”

  • Laura C. Keim, Curator at Stenton House

  • Celia Caust-Ellenbogen, Associate Curator at Friends Historical Library, Swarthmore College

  • Gwen Gosney Erickson, Quaker Archivist and Special Collections Librarian at Guilford College

Each speaker will give a 10–15-minute presentation detailing their research or the remit of ongoing projects. 30 minutes will be reserved at the end for questions from the audience / panel. This event is entirely virtual. A link will be sent to registrants a week prior to the event.
